Josiah
on grief & hope
there’s a magic in becoming
one thing transforming, metamorphosing
into a completely new other
yet the greatest
strangest transition
may not be from one physical thing
to one physical thing—
not caterpillar to butterfly
not even water to wine
but passion to person—
not carnal passion
not thoughtless urgency in the form
of expressed need or desire
but physical expression
of care
devotion
togetherness
service to another that
when at the perfect time
in impossibly optimal conditions
is allowed to reincarnate
as beating heart, pulsing lungs,
flexing fingers, pitter-pattering feet—
not only powered by an act of love
but the physical manifestation
of love itself
taken shape
in a new vessel
/
“one thousand things have to go right”
and so they do
for those completely unaware
they needed to—
what conceives effortless bliss for one
carries the truth of suffering for another—
take for granted
that for which another
would give her soul
& discover the drought
in your own
//
departure
poorly disguised
as early arrival—
does this road circle back?
will his exit lead
to reunion?
had his entry-exit taken the form
you & I both knew without knowing
surely he would have discovered
more than one person
longing to discover him
aching to receive him—
and yet
his eagerness birthed
the haste of that Reunion
we all wait for
as the Eyes that always
sought for him
met his own—
brand new eyes
formed in time
to behold his being beheld
by the One Who gave him
only to take him back
unto Himself
for Himself
forever safe
perfectly loved
yet worlds apart—
waiting to one day
behold those whose love
moved the Giver to give at all
///
the giving Hand
which took
will give again

This is so good Jeremy
Well written, Jeremy. I see several layers here. Great for meditating on this time of year.
